Just one winner on the day, but it was a doozy, at $34, and a solid DRF Formulator play, to boot.

Please visit the Old Friends at Cabin Creek website ( https://oldfriendsatcabincreek.com ) and consider helping out, as every little bit counts! I want to thank those that read my column, and have recently opened up accounts as a result of their fondness for what they see here. I'd like to leave this bit of info here for y'all. When we're using the DRF Formulator platform while writing our columns, if we say "Sprints", for the most part we mean any one turn race, and when we say "Routes", we mean any TWO turn race. ( For example, we consider a 1 1/8th mile race at Belmont an elongated sprint, and a 6 1/2 furlong race at a Charles Town a route. ) We feel this way, because in our eyes, it's the number of turns that necessitate more energy than being relaxed on a straightaway. Sometimes the sample size for our study can be too large to manually break down, so there may be a few from one category in another, but usually the end result is pretty much the same. Additionally, when it comes to layoffs, we consider more than 50 days in a dirt to dirt scenario a layoff, more than 58 days in D to T or T to D a layoff, and more than 67 days in a turf to turf deal a L/O. Furthermore, if we amend our selections for a wet track, and the track becomes fast, our original selections are in play. Note that we currently have had NINETEEN profitable meets thus far !!
Race 1 | 1st -Romantic Dancer | 2nd -Toned Up | 3rd -Proud Foot |
#3 ROMANTIC DANCER has done okay since getting her diploma three starts ago, and sheds 5 lb.'s after a showing versus similar competition eight days ago. Mild choice. #2 TONED UP has been beset by back to back off lines, and although she's winless at this locale, she's fared decently in dirt deals off of a break in the action, and gets a rider who will likely be riding first call for this outfit throughout the winter. #6 PROUD FOOT -- uncoupled entrymate with our top selection -- dead heated for second in a near triple dead heat when returning off of more than a four month sabbatical, and chestnut mare has done nicely over this oval. NOTE: AS OF 11:53, DUE TO A LATE SCRATCH, THE #1 WILL BE OUR 3RD SELECTION.
Race 2 | 1st -Laughter | 2nd -Carbon | 3rd -Everly's Girl |
Backers of #3 LAUGHTER were doing anything of the sort when Jackie lost her irons at the start of the 12/14 event, essentially losing all chance. Six year old is dropped in price this afternoon, while getting Franco in the irons. That last part is of some relevance, as they got the job done in their only dirt pairing together, way back when. This one has done solid work at today's distance of ground, and we'll give her a chance to make amends. #6 CARBON could not copy her solid placing in the penultimate outing, when fading to last versus optional competition. Grey gal is now back at the level from two back, while switching to a rider who has won for this barn. #4 EVERLY'S GIRL has been winless in ten starts since the April 28th claim, and as a matter of fact, Chatterpaul is on a woeful Oh-fer-47 run since two days prior to that claim date. Toss in a zero for 49 skein on the dirt as well, and this runner could not find an easier spot. If not now, then when?
Race 3 | 1st -Soontobeking | 2nd -Kenny Be | 3rd -In The Chase |
These three or no more for all our rolling action. #4 SOONTOBEKING is the clear class of this grouping, having been a part of the superfecta in all five New York bred stakes deals. Lasix is now a part of the makeup, and this one should be no worse than third for all of you who like to grind out a show profit. #2 KENNY BE was a well beaten but dead game runner up versus tougher when last seen four fortnights ago, and we like that the connections are still eschewing the use of Lasix. They'll likely have to grab him by the tail to get the glory. #5 IN THE CHASE gets an upgrade in the stirrups today, and is as good as any for the show dough.
Race 4 | 1st -Jake Rocks | 2nd -Persistent Danger | 3rd -Thank You Jon |
#1 JAKE ROCKS begins his last year on this circuit today, & after being kept in jail since the claim a month back, returns at that same level while retaining the pre-purchase pilot, which is something we always like to see. The recent outing was a troubled one, and fellow makes all kinds of sense if able to get back to the start just prior at Philadelphia Park. #4 PERSISTENT DANGER has been in absentia since early May, but has done his finest work at today's trip, and has fired well fresh. #7 THANK YOU JON totes the lightest impost of his working life, and owns a win and a placing from three starts when last to load.
Race 5 | 1st -Stress Reliever | 2nd -Moonlit Weekend | 3rd -Pam Pam |
#7 STRESS RELIEVER finished in the back half of the pack when returning off a long sabbatical, and the outfit wastes no time in making this one available for purchase for the first time. Lone win came right here, but we're going to make this one the most timid of choices in a race that's hard to hug. #3 MOONLIT WEEKEND is reacquainted with blinkers this afternoon after a few disappointing performances, and gets in light while once again being made available for purchase. #1A PAM PAM has been a part of the superfecta in her last sextet, and draws ideally this afternoon. NOTE: AS OF 11:57, DUE TO A LATE SCRATCH, BOTH HALVES OF THE 1 ENTRY WILL BE OUR SECONDARY SELECTION, WITH THE #2 BEING OUR 3RD CHOICE.
Race 6 | 1st -Gallant Greta | 2nd -Calling an Audible | 3rd -Purpose |
We don't have the best of reads on this deal, so tread lightly. #4 GALLANT GRETA hasn't been in action since the 21st of September, but has only missed a month and a half off the work tab, so there was likely nothing majorly wrong with her. The only time she started on the sand, an adjusted 67.6 speed figure was the end result, and the Tomlinson figure says she just may fare even better in her second time on the stuff. #1 CALLING AN AUDIBLE makes a second start off the L/O today, and as she's yet to miss a superfecta placing in any start over this oval, we'd be remiss in excluding completely. #2 PURPOSE is a bit of a fragile sort, but has cashed a few decent checks along the way, and while logical, it would behoove you to take a looksee during the warmups. NOTE: AS OF 12:01, DUE TO TWO LATE SCRATCHES, #'S 7 & 3 WILL BE OUR SECOND & THIRD CHOICES RESPECTIVELY.
Race 7 | 1st -Chasing Daylight | 2nd -Focus Pocus | 3rd -Splashy |
#8 CHASING DAYLIGHT has been at this level for quite some time, but it's hard to dispute the seven exacta finishes from 14 starts beneath the seagulls, as well as Rudy Rod owning a nice DRF Formulator stat for this one. Over the last 60 months, barn is 5 of 7 with locally based allowance sand sprinters who hit the board 28-50 days ago, piloted by Maragh. The winners came back $15, $6, and $4 x 3, and while they'll know her early, we may be grabbing the Pepto late. #4 FOCUS POCUS played the fade when trying two turns for the first time, but was a convincing victress just before that, and gets in with a triple bug boy today. #3 SPLASHY got up in time to pick up the sheepskin right here last month, and as the speed figure garnered from that day was by far her best ever on the main, we see no reasons to dismiss.
Race 8 | 1st -Magical Ways | 2nd -Treaty Obligation | 3rd -General Banker |
#6 MAGICAL WAYS has put together some fine efforts in Ozone Park at today's distance of ground, and sheds 32 oz. off a lifetime best figaro when finishing a nicely clear runnerup in a similar spot on 12/12. Looks to be a major player. #3 TREATY OBLIGATION shoots for the grand slam today, and as he's ascended the Beyer scale over his last quartet, we'd say it's quite feasible. #2 GENERAL BANKER was on the Derby trail this time last year, and although that didn't quite pan out, this Ferraro charge goes over the $700,000 mark with a mere placing this afternoon. Will do his best work if Rivera is able to navigate him away from the inside, as he simply does his best work when out in the open.
